Director Roman Polanski has been freed by the Swiss government and will not be extradited to the U.S. to face sentencing, via the Washington Post.

Harvey Pekar, whose own life he documented (with the help of artists like R. Crumb) in a series of misanthropic, autobiographical comics, died at his home in Ohio at the age of 70, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Pekar’s comics were the basis for the 2003 film “American Splendor” starring Paul Giamatti as Harvey Pekar. The real Harvey sometimes occasionally in the film, and narrates this scene:
