In mid-July, the Kennedy Center reduced VSA’s office from 35 staff members to seven. VSA’s federal funding, which was $9 million in last year’s budget, will probably be a third of that in the upcoming fiscal year, via the Washington Post. * The Edgar Allan Poe home and museum in Baltimore may close due to lack of funds, via the New York Times. * Chinese artist Ai Weiwei posted his first updates to Twitter over the weekend since being released from government detention, via the Wall Street Journal. * The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library plans to ship copies of “Slaughterhouse-Five” to families in Republic, Mo., who ask for them after a southwest Missouri high school banned one of the author’s best-known books, via the Associated Press. * The ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ exhibition at the Met, which closed Sunday night, was the eighth most attended show at the museum, via ARTINFO.
