I’m proudly a crime writer,” Pelecanos told chief arts correspondent Jeffrey Brown during a recent visit to the studio. Pelecanos is the author of 18 novels, which all take place in Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. He is perhaps best known as a producer and writer for the HBO series “The Wire,” which landed him an Emmy nomination. Currently, he is the writer and executive producer for “Treme,” also on HBO.
