Performer and choreographer Maurice Hines had mostly retired his dancing shoes, until an opportunity came knocking at Washington, D.C.‘s Arena Stage. He’s now starring (again) in a new production of “Sophisticated Ladies,” a show he first appeared in three decades ago with brother Gregory.
As Hines told Jeffrey Brown, the revival at the historic Lincoln Theater was too appealing to pass up, in part because he’s had the opportunity to mentor another brother act: John and Leo Manzari. The show is so popular, it has broken a 60-year-old box office record for the theater.
Below you can watch an extended interview with Hines, clips of the Manzari brothers dancing and an excerpt from the performance.
