About Linda

Linda Winslow was named the Executive Producer of the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer in November 2005 and retired from the broadcast in September 2014. She had been the Deputy Executive Producer of the program since 1983.

In 2009, Linda planned and oversaw the transition to the PBS NewsHour, designed to produce both online and on-air news coverage throughout the day.

Linda was one of the original producers of the half-hour MacNeil/Lehrer Report from 1975 to 1978, and she rejoined the program in 1983 to facilitate its evolution to the one-hour MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour.

From 1978 to 1983, Linda was vice president in charge of news and public affairs for WETA-26/Washington, D.C., where she was responsible for overseeing live coverage of Washington's major news events on PBS, as well as Executive Producer of the weekly PBS series Washington Week in Review and The Lawmakers.

Linda received her Master of Science degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of journalism in 1967 – the year President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Public Broadcasting Act. Since then, she has spent her entire career working to develop and produce national news and public affairs programming on PBS. Her first job was at the Public Broadcasting Laboratory, created in 1967 and designed to distribute a weekly magazine program to disparate educational television entities across the country.

Linda's association with Jim Lehrer and Robert MacNeil dates back to her role as a producer for the National Public Affairs Center for Television (NPACT) in the early 1970’s. Her earliest assignments included gavel-to-gavel coverage of the hearings and proceedings that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. She has also produced coverage of every national political campaign and convention since 1972, as well as assorted Presidential summit meetings at home and abroad, the Vietnam war, the war in Afghanistan, both wars in Iraq, and many other major news events of the last four decades.

She is currently a member of the Board of Visitors of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and of the Boards of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley.

We have received several complaints from our viewers regarding Wednesday night's NewsHour coverage of the Shirley Sherrod story. Most focused on two points: why we didn't mention the name of Andrew Breitbart, whose website, BigGovernment.com, originally posted the…
