In this extended interview, Harvard Business Review editor Justin Fox discusses how the U.S. system is faring in a global perspective and what adjustments might be of benefit to the growing number of American retirees. Fox says “elderly Americans are going to be poorer over the next 20 years than has been the case over the last half century.” But he contends that Social Security and other systems are in better shape than some underfunded European plans. That warning, however doesn’t hold for the Dutch who have been rigorous in watching over their system’s solvency.
