Overall, the sale went slightly better than expected: while experts were predicting a $10 million sale, the final bids brought the Sept. 25 auction to well over $12 million. On Wednesday Christie’s of London will auction another sizable piece of the collection. The art sale, part of Lehman’s bankruptcy, will help pay back the hundreds of billions the former investment firm owes it’s creditors. A free press is a cornerstone of a healthy democracy.
