Can you tell the difference between the Massachusetts health reform law and the Affordable Care Act?

A quiz from Politifact.com tests your knowledge of two major health reform policies: the 2006 plan passed by the state legislature and signed into law by former Republican Gov. Mitt Romney — who has entered the race for the 2012 presidential GOP nomination — and the 2010 federal law championed by the Obama administration.

The NewsHour looked at some of the similarities (and differences) in the bills last fall:

Like the new federal law, the Massachusetts legislation requires most people to buy insurance or pay a penalty, provide subsidies to low-income families to purchase coverage, requires most employers with more than 10 workers to offer insurance, and dramatically expands Medicaid.

But there are some key differences. The Massachusetts law didn’t address cost control — and from early on there were questions about the high cost of the program. The state has subsequently sought to study and establish ways to monitor and contain costs.

In recent days, Romney’s been trying to set apart the Bay State’s law from the federal law — and acknowledged some mistakes in his plan. Romney has also tried to assure conservatives he’d work to roll back the ACA.

The Politifact quiz, posted Wednesday takes 10 descriptions of the plans that from their legislation, official summaries, private reports and interviews with experts to see if users can tell which is which.
