Administrative Assistant

Base Pay: $50,000.00 – $55,000.00 / Year

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Provide on-going, high-level and complex administrative support to PBS News, its Senior Correspondent and others as assigned.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide on-going, high-level and complex administrative support.
  • Manage and maintain daily and long-range calendars and schedules for PBS News’ Senior Correspondent and others as assigned.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, book occasional travel and manage expense reports for same.
  • Manage communications, invitations and meetings.
  • Maintain departmental files including monthly finance statements, previous budgets, etc.
  • Assist with meeting materials and presentations.
  • Serve as liaison to staff.
  • Serve as the go-to person for staff needs
  • Work and partner with other departments (such as IT, facilities, mailroom etc.) to resolve any issues.
  • Coordinate and schedule PBS News new hire orientations.
  • Office managerial duties including, but not limited to:
  • Ordering meals for staff for special events, ordering office supplies, maintaining updates to staff phone lists.
  • Other administrative work to ensure the smooth operation of a busy newsroom and office.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Administrative office experience in an executive-level office environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures. Demonstrated writing skills for business correspondence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with customer service orientation, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding and application of computer technology to efficiently accomplish work using Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, database management software
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must exhibit sound judgment and handle confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Interest in journalism.
  • Ability to work long hours, at times with little or no notice in a breaking news environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LOCATION:

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
