President Trump will be the first outgoing president in more than 150 years to skip inauguration

The last president to do so was Andrew Johnson, who did not attend the inauguration of Ulysses S. Grant in 1869. Johnson rose to the presidency following Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, and, like Trump, was impeached by the House of Representatives and acquitted by the Senate during a time of bitter partisan division.
