Of the 13 people shot and wounded Thursday night at a basketball court in Chicago’s South Side by at least two gunmen one of the victims include a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the head and is currently in the most critical condition.

The boy’s grandmother, Semehca Nunn, told the Chicago Tribune, “they need to stop, they need to stop,” before she collapsed crying.

The boy’s uncle was shot and killed in a separate incidence of gun violence earlier this month.

Police said they haven’t made any arrests but speculate that the shooting was gang related.

This is the latest incident in a string of homicides and gang violence that have plagued Chicago in recent years. In 2012, Chicago had more than 500 homicides, more than any other city in the country.

According to AP, the police department has upped their efforts this year to combat rising gun violence, including paying overtime to add patrols to some neighborhoods. Since January 2013, the department has spent more than $57 million on overtime pay for officers.
