Why should we wait to recognize genius until later in life? Carlos Watson, CEO of website OZY, joins Gwen Ifill to share details on the new OZY Genius Awards. The award grants 10 college students summer stipends to help them shake up the world.
This spring, OZY will award 10 college students with a new summer stipend, riffing off the idea of the MacArthur Genius Awards and bringing it to a younger audience.
“Why do you have to wait until you’re 40, 50, 60 to be named a genius? Why can’t we look at universities all around the world and find that next Oprah, that next Einstein, that next Wendy Kopp,” OZY CEO Carlos Watson.
At $3,000 to $10,000 a summer, the goal is that these students will “try and do something big.” Students started competing for the grants on Wednesday and the winners will be announced on May 4.
