Computer-generated child used to catch 1,000 online predators

A thousand men from the U.S., U.K., India and other countries were caught trying to pay a 10-year-old Filipina named “Sweetie” to perform sex acts in online video chat rooms. It was a sting set up by Dutch children’s charity Terre des Hommes.

What the predators didn’t know, however, was that “Sweetie” was computer-generated. In the course of the 10-week operation, the charity reported that around 20,000 men ended up contacting the digital creation. A thousand of those men offered the CG girl money to do sexual acts. Their names were later found and given to police after using evidence taken from social media to find their identities.
