Fiery bus crash kills dozens in India

A bus that crashed on a highway in southern India is responsible for at least 44 deaths after a deadly blaze erupted from an exploding fuel tank.

Al Jazeera reports that at 5 a.m. local time, the bus driver had apparently been attempting to pass another vehicle. In the process, the bus ended up hitting a central reservation on the highway that connects the Indian cities of Bangalore and Hyderabad.

"The driver was speeding at about 120-130 kilometers an hour. He was driving all night, it seems he may have fallen asleep at the wheel," said L. Sarman, a senior district administrative official, to AFP.

Survivors are being treated at a nearby hospital in Wanaparthy.
