Former President George H.W. Bush has been released from the hospital after he was admitted about one week ago due to shortness of breath, according to the Associated Press.
Bush, 90, is now resting at home with family, spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement. He was admitted to Methodist Hospital before Christmas and watched the Texans play football on television while under the care of hospital staff.
He was elected the 41st president of the United States in 1988 and led the nation during the 1991 Gulf War before losing to Bill Clinton. During his career, he also served as an ambassador to China and as director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
