‘Game of Thrones’ leads Emmy nominations; ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Transparent’ receive nods

“Game of Thrones” netted the most Emmy nominations on Thursday with 24 nods, including one for best drama, alongside “Better Call Saul,” “Downton Abbey,” “Homeland,” “House of Cards,” “Mad Men” and “Orange Is the New Black.” Actors Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke were each nominated for best supporting actress in a drama and Peter Dinklage was nominated for best supporting actor in a drama.

1960s-era drama “Mad Men,” political drama “House of Cards” and “Transparent,” an Amazon original about a transgender parent, followed with 11 nominations each. HBO netted the most nominations of any network with 126.

Netflix newcomer “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” a comedy about a woman who escapes from an underground doomsday cult to live in New York City, also got nominated for Outstanding Comedy, along with nominations for actors Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess, as well as Tina Fey for her guest appearance in the show she created. Viola Davis of “How to Get Away With Murder” and Taraji P. Henson of “Empire” were each nominated for best actress in a drama series. That award has yet to go to a black actress.
