The UNAIDS reports that HIV infections fell by a third since 2001, attributing the decline to increasingly affordable and available antiretroviral drugs. The decline is especially steep for children, with a 52 percent reduction in new HIV infections. In 2001, there were more than half a million new infections in children worldwide.
