Meth-laden drone crashes over Mexico-U.S. border

A drug-filled drone crashed into supermarket parking lot near the San Ysidro Port of Entry in Tijuana on Tuesday night.

Six pounds of methamphetamine were found taped to the drone, using a combination of “plastic webbing and strings of black tape,””
according to NBC. The drone itself had six propellers and was found by an anonymous citizen. Now, authorities are investigating the origin of the attempted drug smuggling.

The use of unmanned vehicles to transport drugs has been on the rise in recent years.

The same Tuesday in South Carolina, a man who attempted to smuggle cell phones, marijuana and cigarettes into a maximum security South Carolina prison in April was sentenced to 15 years in prison. His drone was found outside the prison’s 12-foot-high fence.

This is the first time a drone used to smuggle drugs has been found near the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
