In his response to Tuesday’s terror attacks in Brussels, for which the Islamic State has claimed responsibility, Cruz called for law enforcement to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized.” Cruz released an official statement through his presidential campaign and his Senate office. Cruz did not provide specifics as to how this proposal — one that President Obama deemed “un-American” — would be implemented. Since Cruz’s statement, many Muslim Americans have tweeted pictures of their own neighborhoods using the hashtag #MuslimNeighborhood to show the presidential candidate that there is no difference between a “Muslim neighborhood” and an American one. https://twitter.com/aantepli/status/712632583662780416 https://twitter.com/Clarknt67/status/712714021523353600 She tried to confront my kid about not finishing breakfast;had to call for back up, Elmo came #MuslimNeighborhood pic.twitter.com/08kmFumVf1 — Asma (@LibyanBentBladi) March 23, 2016 In my #MuslimNeighborhood we get a little ridiculous in front of the camera when we get bored on Sundays pic.twitter.com/C4lCbegbzr — Suehaila Amen (@SuehailaAmen) March 23, 2016 In my #MuslimNeighborhood, you'll find people planting trees to beautify the area and boarding up abandoned homes. pic.twitter.com/d6spbzoCf0 — Hazel Gómez de Crain (@Palunquita) March 23, 2016 https://twitter.com/Ashley_spry09/status/712675001791561728 By — Kamaria Roberts Kamaria Roberts Kamaria Roberts is the Online Production Assistant at NewsHour. @KamariaLeyla
