Zoo scientists have been anxiously waiting to assess the panda cub since she was born on August 23 in Washington, D.C. Our panda cub had her 1st full vet exam yesterday! She weighs just under 2 pounds. #cubwatch pic.twitter.com/JERwfQ5XoY — National Zoo (@NationalZoo) September 17, 2013 Scientists were able to retrieve the cub for the exam when her mother, Mei Xiang, left the den at 4:11 p.m. and the exam was finished 20 minutes later.
