New Mexico is the only state without guidelines that explicitly allow or prohibit same-sex marriage. After the U.S. Supreme Court’s struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act in June, eight of the state’s county clerks began to marry same-sex couples. KOAT-TV in Albuquerque is live streaming the courtroom proceedings. Earlier this week, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie dropped his appeal of an earlier decision in the state to allow gay marriage as an equal rights issue. New Jersey is now one of 14 states plus the District of Columbia that permit same-sex marriage.
