Oregon’s health insurance exchange is not in service yet, but fast-track enrollment for the Oregon Health Plan has signed up 56,000 new people in the last two weeks, causing the number of uninsured to drop by 10 percent, Oregon Health Authority officials said.

The Oregonian reports that the Oregon Health Authority sent out notices to 260,000 people enrolled in the state’s food stamp program to inform them they prequalified for the Oregon Health Plan in 2014.

The low-income program serves more than 656,000 residents.
