The migrants want refugee status and an end to anti-immigration policies in Israel. The Israeli government has taken a strong anti-immigration position, and recently passed legislation allowing migrants to be detained for up to a year without a trial. In early 2013, PBS NewsHour Reporter/Producer P.J. Tobia traveled to Tel Aviv to report on the lives of Eritrean migrants living in Israel, and the hardships they face to get there.
