Prison guards falsified log books in Ariel Castro death

According to a new report released by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, prison guards did not properly conduct their 30 minute rounds on the night Ariel Castro died.

The report finds that two officers falsified log books about the incident, changing records for five of the rounds. The two officers responsible have been placed on administrative leave without pay.
Ariel Castro hanged himself in prison on Sept. 3, only weeks after being sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years. He was responsible for kidnapping Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus from the streets of Cleveland, holding them captive for over 10 years. In addition, Ariel Castro was convicted of assault, rape, and aggravated murder (for intentionally inducing miscarriages).

The report suggests that Ariel Castro did not commit suicide, and instead died as a result of auto-erotic asphyxiation, which is the intentional restriction of oxygen to the brain for the purposes sexual arousal. Authorities were led to this belief because “his pants and underwear were pulled down to his ankles.”
