Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is promoting the release of his new movie “The Christmas Candle,” opening in 300 U.S. cities Friday.

In June, the former presidential hopeful took over as the CEO of EchoLight Studios, a Dallas-based Christian film company that produces and distributes what they described as faith-based family films.

“The Christmas Candle” is based on a novel by Max Lucado about a minister in a 19th century small English town trying to move his congregation past an age old belief in a miracle candle. Santorum told the AP when it comes the meaningful Christmas movies, Hollywood has fallen short. “Name a Christmas movie produced by Hollywood that has anything to do with Christmas,” Santorum said at a recent screening of his film. “Not elves and Santa Claus and reindeer and ‘The Polar Express’ — some of these are very good movies, uplifting, wonderful, but none of them mention what Christmas is about! None of them mention the birth of Jesus Christ. That is remarkable.”
