Police officials said the gunman fatally shot a state trooper and wounded two civilians, before dying in a shootout with two other troopers. According to Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Steven Flaherty, trooper Chad Dermyer, 37, died from multiple gunshots. The civilians’ injuries aren’t life-threatening, said Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police. Initially, officials said two troopers and a civilian had been taken to a nearby hospital. City Council member Reva Trammell called the shooting a “senseless act” and said it was “the saddest day in the city of Richmond.” Greyhound issued a statement saying the bus station was closed until further notice.
