U.N. Security Council votes to increase peacekeeper numbers in South Sudan

The United Nations Security Council unanimously authorized a plan Tuesday which will almost double the number of U.N. peacekeepers in South Sudan.

The plans, requested by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, comes as violence plaguing South Sudan continues to worsen. The U.N. mission will now see its numbers grow to 12,500 troops and 1,323 police, Reuters reports, up from 7,000 and 900 troops and police respectively.
