WATCH: The National Cathedral tolls bell marking 800,000 American COVID-19 deaths

The Washington National Cathedral on Dec. 15 tolled its Bourdon Bell 800 times in memory of the at least 800,000 Americans who have lost their lives to COVID-19.

The U.S. passed the grim milestone a day earlier as the government continues to urge people to get vaccinated in an effort to curb the ongoing pandemic.

The bell ringing took more than an hour.
