Still from “Dark Blood
The LA Times reports that an unfinished cut of River Phoenix’s final film, titled “Dark Blood” has been published to YouTube. The film was in production in 1993 when Phoenix died of a drug overdose on a sidewalk in West Hollywood. Phoenix plays a young widower who retreats to the desert to deal with his depression. The production was only 80 percent complete when filming halted. Recently George Sluizer, the film’s now 80 year-old director, screened a cut where he provides narration for the missing scenes, and that appears to be the version posted online. If you watch, be aware that the film has not been rated.
