Let’s Make a Deal on Syria In Paris, Secretary of State John Kerry meets with U.S. allies, including foreign ministers from Great Britain, France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia – all of whom have been staunch critics of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The meetings come in light of the Syria’s chemical weapons bargain with Russia and the U.S. to dispose of Syrian chemical arms over the next nine months. Kerry says all, including Russia, agree on the need for consequences if Syria does not comply. UN Report Release Expected U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will brief the Security Council Monday about the inspectors’ report on the use of chemical weapons in Syria. Colorado Flooding Residents of hard-hit towns trying to clean up from last week’s floods, with 1,500 homes destroyed and nearly 17,500 damaged. According to a Colorado Office of Emergency Management report, there are five dead and 1,253 people reported missing as of Sunday afternoon. The Next Federal Reserve Chair It won’t be Lawrence Summers, former U.S. treasury secretary, who withdrew his name from consideration. President Barack Obama’s considering two other choices, Fed Vice Chairman Janet L. Yellen and former Fed vice chairman Don Kohn. A free press is a cornerstone of a healthy democracy.
