China and other southeast Asian nations demand explanations of reports that U.S. and Australian embassies are being used as NSA hubs.

Syria chemical weapons

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says it has verified that Syria has destroyed key equipment ahead of Nov. 1 deadline.

Maliki in Washington

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki speaks at the U.S. Institute of Peace. The organization will live stream the event at 10 a.m. EDT.

Investment summit

President Barack Obama speaks before an investment summit. The president is helping connect foreign and domestic companies and investors with economic development organizations across the country while promoting the United States as a sound business environment.

Navy Yard hearing

Federal officials who oversee the security clearance process for government employees will testify before a Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The hearing will examine the adequacy of background checks and the security clearance system for federal employees and contract workers, weeks after the deadly shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

World Series

And the Boston Red Sox win it at home for first time since 1918. It’s their third title in 10 years. We’ll be watching for celebrations from the city today.
