Here are the stories we are following this morning. Election Day results: Tuesday was Election Day for several U.S. states. Here were some of the races we watched as polls closed that evening: Republican Gov. Chris Christie won a second term as New Jersey governor with more than 50 percent of the vote. Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s win for Virginia governor was closer than expected, defeating his GOP opponent, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli with 47.9 percent of the vote for McAuliffe and 45.5 percent for Cuccinelli. Bill de Blasio became the first Democrat mayor since 1989. Detroit elects Democrat Mike Duggan, the city’s first white mayor in 40 years. In Alabama, the GOP establishment candidate defeated the tea party candidate in a special congressional runoff. Greenhouse gases in atmosphere reach new high in 2012: Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere last year was higher than its average rise over the past decade, the World Meteorological Organization, WMO, said.
