The bureau made the announcement in an unusual call to local law enforcement agencies and the general public late Sunday evening.
“Although the FBI has no specific information that these individuals are connected to any potential terrorist activities, based upon information developed in the course of on-going investigations, the FBI would like to locate and question these persons,” a press release published Dec. 29 said.
The release identified the five as Abid Noraiz Ali, 25; Iftikhar Khozmai Ali, 21; Mustafa Khan Owasi, 33; Adil Pervez, 19; and Akbar Jamal, 28. It also included a photo of each wanted man.
News reports have said that the men entered the United States through Canada, crossing the border sometime around Dec. 24.
“Anyone with any information pertaining to these individuals is asked to contact their nearest FBI office,” the press release said.
Although the FBI release did not mention the nationality of the men, news reports have said they are thought to be from Pakistan.
Photos of the men have been published on the FBI’s Web site at www.fbi.gov.
