Latino Vote Key to Obama Re-election

Pre-election predictions on the impact of a strong Election Day turnout among Latino voters proved true.

Although both campaigns sought to woo Latino voters, President Obama received a historic 71 percent of the Hispanic vote Tuesday, propelling him to victory in several battleground states.

NewsHour correspondent Kwame Holman talked with Hispanic voters at the polls Tuesday in Prince William County, Va., a fast-growing suburb in one of this year’s key battleground states. The county’s population has jumped more than 40 percent in the last decade, and Latinos make up the fastest-growing group.

While there, Holman found a growing electorate increasingly interested in both candidates’ stances on social issues — but not necessarily the same ones. While some of those interviewed said they agreed with the president’s position on immigration, others said they favored Romney’s views on abortion.
