Responding to an anonymous White House quote saying that the Democrats were "winning" the shutdown, Boehner said: "This isn't some damn game. The American people don't want their government shut down and neither do I." Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy also said that President Barack Obama's shortened trip to Asia would be an opportunity to negotiate with the GOP to reach a resolution to the shutdown.
