POSITION OVERVIEW:

PBS News seeks a skilled multiplatform producer who will report, write, edit, shoot and produce journalism for our digital platforms and work a hybrid weekday/weekend schedule. Qualified applicants should have 3-5 years of reporting experience, the ability to work independently or as a part of a team and a hunger for bylines. Applicants should have experience producing journalism across text, audio, video and social media platforms. Experience working on a national platform is a plus, as is a demonstrated ability to reach audiences on social media. The multiplatform producer will work in a general assignment capacity, covering a wide range of breaking and longer-term news stories. This role will produce and publish digital news coverage on Saturdays and Sundays, in addition to working three additional weekdays. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pitch, report, write, edit and produce daily quick turn news reports in text, video and social media formats. Manage and produce video live streams of breaking news events
• Staff and support the PBS News ‘Rundown’ news blog by responding to news in real time by managing wire copy and coordinating live video streams of news events.
• Collaborate with visual and social teams to translate reporting across platforms Research, pitch and produce longer-term projects requiring extensive reporting.
• Offer daily coverage ideas during editorial planning meetings and participate in longer term strategic planning.
• Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent writing, scripting and communication skills
• Adept at video editing and production for video and social platforms.
• Extensive knowledge of social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
• The ability to tackle and understand complicated subjects and interpret them for online platforms.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or other related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in journalism.
• Proven experience reporting for a major publication, digital or television organization.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LOCATION:

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
