Chao currently works at the conservative Heritage Foundation where she serves as a distinguished fellow and chairs the Asian Studies Advisory Council.
The former president and chief executive officer of United Way of America, Elaine Chao helped restore the charitable organization’s membership, finances, and public confidence.
During the Bush and Reagan administrations she held various posts including: director of the Peace Corps, where she established the first outreach to the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union; deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation; and chair of the Federal Maritime Commission.
In the private sphere she has worked as Vice President of Bank America Capital Markets Group in San Francisco.
She holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an undergraduate degree in economics from Mount Holyoke College.
