On Monday, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., formally announced that she is seeking the Republican nomination, the newest addition to the GOP field. Her announcement came a day after the Des Moines Register Iowa Poll showed her tied with the current frontrunner, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Bachmann, the ninth Republican candidate to officially join the race, took advantage of her Iowa roots in a state that is heavily watched during the primary season.
