Reid, Angle Duel in New Television Ads

The Nevada Senate race between Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican Sharron Angle is expected to be one of this year’s most talked-about contests. Based on campaign ads released Thursday by both campaigns, it’s also looking like it will be one of the hardest-hitting.

Reid’s new spot takes aim at Angle for some of her past statements in an attempt to paint her as extreme. Among the examples referenced in the ad are Angle’s remarks to a conservative talk-radio host that voters might seek “Second Amendment remedies” against the government, her stated opposition to abortion even in the case of rape or incest and her support of a proposed drug-treatment program that would have used massage techniques employed by Scientologists.

The ad closes with the line, “Sharron Angle, just too extreme.”

Angle’s new ad, meanwhile, goes after the majority leader for the legislation he, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Obama have helped enact.

In the spot called “Love Triangle,” the narrator says, “Together they promised to change America, and boy did they,” before citing “taxpayer-funded bailouts for Wall Street” and “a $787 billion stimulus that failed.”

The ad ends with the line, “They say you can’t buy love, but we’ve certainly paid a heavy price.”
