RNC Chairman Steele Urges Unity as He Rolls Out ‘Fire Pelosi’ Bus Tour

In an immediate effort to heal the Republican party’s divisions on display in the Delaware Senate race, RNC Chairman Michael Steele offered his full throated support for the tea party backed victor in the race, Christine O’Donnell.

Steele urged party unity as the Republicans look to make big gains in the midterm season.

“Now that the are primaries over, it is important for us to recognize the importance of this moment as a party,” Steele said. “Let’s not get so heady in this moment to think that what happened in 2006 and 2008 was distant memory, somebody else’s nightmare – that was our nightmare, created by us. And we cannot in this moment waste the opportunity by tearing each other down,” he added.

Democrats may have an easier time of maintaining their majority control of the U.S. Senate after O’Donnell came from behind to defeat more moderate Republican candidate Rep. Mike Castle.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele held a press conference Wednesday morning at party headquarters in Washington to unveil his party’s “Fire Pelosi” bus, which will take Steele on a road trip to 48 states aimed at promoting Republican efforts to win back control of the House.

Republicans see a chance during the upcoming midterm elections to win the 39 seats necessary for them to “fire” California Democrat Nancy Pelosi from her position as Speaker of the House.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Time Kaine also kicked off his party’s 2010 general election efforts Wednesday by unveiling Democrats.org. We will have more from Kaine in the Rundown later today.
