Romney late Tuesday denounced a statement made by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo condemning a video that sparked protests. But the response was in part due to the Romney campaign being unaware of the timeline of the statement, and it prompted President Obama's campaign to say the Republican was politicizing the attacks. But Wednesday, Romney stood firm about the sentiment in his statement. "They clearly sent mixed messages to the world ... the embassy is the administration," Romney told reporters. "When a mistake is made of that significance, you speak out." The GOP hopeful said the embassy's statement was "disgraceful," and was "akin to an apology and ... a severe miscalculation."
