Shields and Brooks on Herman Cain, Occupy Movement, Detroit, iPhone 4S

In this week’s edition of The Doubleheader, syndicated columnist Mark Shields, New York Times columnist David Brooks and I chat about Herman Cain’s surge in recent polls, the merits of his 9-9-9 plan (see the fact-check of the plan by The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler) and the Occupy Wall Street movement’s growth. Brooks cited a poll by the New York Magazine survey of protesters.

We also talked Detroit, because frankly, how can you not when the president of South Korea sports a Tigers cap like this?

“Imported from Detroit” is beginning to define cool, perhaps it started with that iconic Superbowl ad featuring Eminem, perhaps it’s for the host of other reasons in this USA Today article, or as Shields and Brooks say, it is quintessentially American to root for the underdog.

Also, how could we not try out Siri on the first day people gained access to the new iPhone 4S? The phone is not mine, but there was one in the newsroom, so we asked our female voice to define “Doubleheader.” She came up with this. Something fishy must be going on.
