He was accused of funneling corporate money to candidates in 2002. DeLay had faced up to life in prison. Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert testified on DeLay’s behalf before Judge Pat Priest issued his ruling. After he was convicted in November, DeLay called the verdict “an abuse of power” and “miscarriage of justice.” He has maintained his innocence.
