Watch in our video player above. The NIH under the Trump administration cut or froze billions of dollars in research funding last year. A report published in JAMA Internal Medicine in November found those cuts had affected more than 74,000 people who had been enrolled in studies for treatments for illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, brain disease, flu, pneumonia and COVID-19.
