WATCH: Trump awards Charlie Kirk posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Donald Trump will honor influential conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Tuesday with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor the White House can bestow on a civilian.

Kirk, who would have turned 32 on Oct. 14, was shot and killed last month by a gunman at Utah Valley University. As the founder of Turning Point USA, he became a significant figure in right-wing politics, particularly through his appearances and organizing on college campuses and outreach to young people.

At a public memorial service in Glendale, Arizona, Trump called Kirk a “martyr” for America’s freedom and vowed that history would not forget him.

Kirk was a friend and ally to Trump, and his assassination inspired grief — and backlash — among his supporters. Vice President JD Vance suggested people call out others who celebrated the controversial influencer’s death, including by informing their employers. ABC late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was temporarily suspended from the air after the network was threatened by a Trump appointee over comments related to the shooting.

Argentinian President Javier Milei, who became acquainted with Kirk as a fellow prominent voice of the right, is expected to join the ceremony at the White House.
