Gwen Ifill Named Recipient of National Press Club’s Fourth Estate Award

The National Press Club on Friday announced that PBS NewsHour co-anchor and managing editor Gwen Ifill will be the 2015 recipient of the Fourth Estate Award. Ifill, who also serves as moderator and managing editor of “Washington Week,” will receive the award at the Press Club’s gala on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015.

Ifill is the 43rd recipient of the Fourth Estate Award, which recognizes a journalist who has made significant contributions to the field through a lifetime of excellence. Past recipients include Walter Cronkite, Bob Woodward, Christiane Amanpour, Helen Thomas, and Bob Schieffer.

National Press Club President John Hughes said in the announcement, “Gwen Ifill embodies the core values of journalism at a time when the industry is undergoing tremendous change. Whether working in print or broadcast, she has been a voice of balance, fairness and depth throughout her career.”
