Washington, DC (June 3, 2016) — Wednesday night’s “Questions for President Obama: A PBS NewsHour Special” drew an average audience of 1.12 million viewers (Nielsen Live+Same Day Fast National data). At the Lerner Theatre in Elkhart, Indiana, President Obama discussed the current presidential election and Donald Trump’s campaign for president, the transgender bathroom debate and the U.S. economy during an exclusive town hall with 100 residents of Elkhart moderated by Gwen Ifill, and preceded by an interview with the NewsHour co-anchor.
PBS NewsHour with Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff has seen audience growth for the broadcast in each month of 2016. According to Nielsen national ratings, NewsHour’s P2+ average audience for April 2016 was up +34% vs. April 2015 at 1,019,000 viewers. Ratings in March 2016 were up +27% vs. March 2015, February 2016 were up +16% vs. Feb. 2015, and January 2016 were up +6% vs. Jan. 2015.
