PBS NewsHour Recognized with Two Webby People’s Voice Awards
Arlington, VA (May 18, 2021) — The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) today announced PBS NewsHour as the recipient of two Webby People’s Voice Awards, for “What does health care cost around the world?” in the Websites and Mobile Sites: Best Individual Editorial Feature category and for pbs.org/NewsHour in the Websites and Mobile Sites: News & Politics category. The IADAS is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet.
PBS NewsHour’s “What does health care cost around the world?” interactive contrasts how the U.S. health care system compares to health care systems around the world. To bring that home for our audience, we developed a quiz using real world examples that many Americans are familiar with, like the cost of a hip replacement, acquiring diabetes medication or undergoing a c-section during birth. We hope this quiz makes the debate over health care less abstract and echoes the gaps in health care affordability and access.
In 2020’s Webby Awards competition, PBS NewsHour’s website was an honoree in the same category. NewsHour Digital is known for thoughtful and trustworthy journalism including breaking news, under-reported issues, and in-depth reporting of events featured in the nightly broadcast as well as live streams of news events and the nightly broadcast. It features topical verticals – from politics, world news, and health to business, science, and education – as well as the digital arts initiative, CANVAS.
