PBS NewsHour to Provide Complete Coverage of the Senate Confirmation Hearings for Elena Kagan

PBS NewsHour will provide live coverage and analysis of the Senate Confirmation Hearings for Supreme Court Nominee Elena Kagan which are expected to begin Monday, June 28, at approximately 12:30 PM ET and continue throughout the week.  Judy Woodruff will anchor PBS NewsHour’s special coverage from a booth overlooking the hearing room in the Hart Senate Office Building.  Marcia Coyle, chief Washington correspondent for the National Law Journal, will provide analysis.

Gavel-to-gavel coverage will begin Monday with the statements by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Elena Kagan’s opening statement.  Special coverage will conclude at the end of Elena Kagan’s appearances before the committee, which is expected to be Wednesday or Thursday.  Highlights of testimony from additional witnesses will be included in the PBS NewsHour’s regularly scheduled broadcast (check local listings.)

Live streaming video of the NewsHour’s special coverage of the hearings will be provided in conjunction with NPR and Ustream.

• Question & Answer – During afternoon breaks in the hearings, stay tuned to the NewsHour’s live streaming video feed — Marcia Coyle will answer viewer questions submitted via e-mail, Twitter and Facebook in interviews with Hari Sreenivasan. 
• Widget – A widget with the streaming video feed plus news content from PBS NewsHour and SCOTUSblog will be posted on our site and offered to others free of charge for embedding on your own web site.
• LIVE Blog – PBS NewsHour will contribute analysis and content to SCOTUSblog’s live blog of the hearings. The NewsHour will feature the SCOTUSblog live blog on its site as well.
• History – Hari Sreenivasan will ask Marcia Coyle to reflect on some of the memorable moments in modern confirmation hearings in a Web-exclusive video.
• PBS NewsHour will provide profiles of the judiciary panel, nominee Elena Kagan and other key players.
