PBS NewsHour’s Coverage of America’s Gun Violence Epidemic Receives Peabody Award Nomination

Arlington, VA (April 11, 2023)— PBS NewsHour today received a Peabody nomination for its multi-faceted coverage of the ongoing gun violence epidemic in America and the effect it has on communities, victims, and survivors. The George Foster Peabody Awards are administered by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. The winners of the Peabody Awards will be announced on May 9^th, 2023.

The Peabody judges described NewsHour’s “Guns in America” coverage by saying: “Faced with repeatedly reporting on the endless cycle of mass shootings across America, PBS NewsHour raised the bar, providing context while also telling empathetic stories across different segments throughout the year dealing with victims, survivors, and their communities in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas.”
